The 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale is one of the most memorable holes in all of golf and Jordan Spieth has been giving his thoughts on the raucous crowd there at the WM Phoenix Open.

Spieth fell away from contention in the end as Thomas Detry roared to a fine victory for his first ever win on the PGA Tour.

After being invited to the Genesis Invitational despite poor form, Spieth proved just why he got the invite with some excellent golf in Arizona to finish inside the top five.

Of course, one of the highlights of the whole tournament is the 16th hole. Emiliano Grillo produced a stunning hole in one on Friday, before Thomas Detry himself stuffed one to within a foot to seal his victory.

And giving his verdict on the whole, Spieth has now commented after he saw his playing partner Maverick McNealy booed.

Jordan Spieth’s verdict on the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale

With McNealy being booed after his tee shot went wide and his putt missed, Jordan Spieth was left to witness the crowd get on the back of his playing partner.

However, Spieth has admitted he loves the hole and in the end, players either have to embrace it, or suffer.

“At this point in my career, it is what it is. I certainly enjoy it,” Spieth said. “If a putt gets to the hole and if a really good putt misses, which I think they were booing what Maverick hit today, and I was like, all right, that was a perfect putt right across the lip. If you leave it short, I get it, but it is what it is.”

“If you don’t like it, then you’re really not going to like the experience. If you learn to embrace it, then you can have fun with it. Honestly it makes that hole a lot harder.

“That scoring average would be lower if it weren’t for what your Thunderbirds do to set that hole up the way it is.”

How Jordan Spieth fared on the 16th hole at the WM Open 2025

If you can make a birdie or better on the stadium hole at TPC Scottsdale, then you’re going to get quite the reaction and luckily for Jordan Spieth, he played it well all week.

Spieth managed to play the whole in the most steady way possible, making par on the 16th in each of his four rounds throughout the week.

In comparison, Thomas Detry managed to make birdie twice through the week, which immediately gives him two of the seven shots he eventually won by.

With a Ryder Cup at Bethpage this year, the 16th at Scottsdale is ideal preparation really for any players – including Detry and Spieth – who might be involved.
