Jordan Spieth might have come up just short in his quest to win the WM Phoenix Open but there were still some impressive moments from the three-time major champion.

Spieth was looking for his first win since 2022 but despite playing well and producing some magic moments, he couldn’t get near eventual winner Thomas Detry.

Detry won his first ever PGA Tour event in style as he produced a dart on the famous 16th at TPC Scottsdale to put things to bed with two holes to play.

For Spieth, Detry’s shot meant he was six behind and never going to catch him but while Detry was producing on 16, Spieth was doing the business over on 17.

In fact, so much so, that PGA Tour player Billy Horschel was quick to tell everyone just how good a shot Spieth had pulled off.

Billy Horschel seriously impressed by Jordan Spieth at the Waste Management Open

While Jordan Spieth might be closing in on three years without a win, there were moments during his final round that suggested he’s not far off being back to his best.

One such moment came on the 17th, with Spieth in trouble and wide of the fairway, he somehow managed to manipulate the ball up onto the green and leave himself around 10 feet for birdie. He duly made said birdie, and over on X, Billy Horschel was waxing lyrical about Spieth’s shot onto the putting surface.

Billy Horschel glued to the WM Open as he praises Thomas Detry

With Horschel clearly tuning in to see who got the job done down the stretch, there was also praise from him towards the winner, Thomas Detry.

The Belgian became the first winner from his country on the PGA Tour and after sticking it to within a foot on 16, Horschel was quick to praise the European star.

Horschel, of course, is one of a number of American players looking to seal a place in the Ryder Cup team for this year.

And after seeing Detry dominate the field in Phoenix, we might well see both Horschel and Detry come Bethpage later on in 2025.
