Jordan Spieth couldn’t quite produce enough magic to win the WM Phoenix Open but good friend Justin Thomas has had a positive outlook for both he and Spieth following the final round.
Spieth never quite got close to catching the leader and eventual winner Thomas Detry but overall, the American will be delighted with a return to form.
Spieth is coming back from major surgery on a wrist injury. Both Spieth and Thomas have not won since 2022, and with a Ryder Cup in 2025, the pair will be desperate to rekindle some sort of form.
However, while Spieth was chasing the win, Justin Thomas also had his own moments and his stunning eagle on 18 made him the first player to ever make eagle on that hole at TPC Scottsdale during a final round.
And looking ahead to the rest of the year, Thomas has said he’s keen to see both he and Spieth in contention to win more often.

Justin Thomas gives verdict on Jordan Spieth’s WM Phoenix Open performance
Speaking to the press immediately after his final round, Thomas was asked about his friendship with Spieth and if this weekend is a sign of things to come.
For Thomas, though, it’s all about winning as he admitted to being pleased but not fully satisfied.
“I don’t know. You can probably answer that question better than me. But we both are — we love to compete. We love to have chances to win tournaments. Although we both had a good week, we’re not going to finish the week satisfied without getting the trophy,” Thomas said.
“I know we both have really wanted to push each other again and get back doing it out for tournaments, so hopefully this will springboard a little bit of a stretch of that.”
With the PGA Tour lacking a bit of star power after losing players to LIV, the PGA Tour powers that be will be delighted to see two of its star attractions getting back to form.
Justin Thomas explains why he loves TPC Scottsdale so much
Thomas finishing in the top five continues a good run at the WM Open for him and it’s clearly a venue and tournament he enjoys playing.
Thomas finished 12th last year despite being out of form, and it’s somewhere he seems to relish playing.
Indeed, when pressed on what he loves about the course so much, Thomas admitted it was simply somewhere that suited his game.
“The course fits my eye. I think I know how to play it. It doesn’t mean I’m going to play it that way, but I know how to get it around, and I’ve played well here. I think that’s obviously most important,” Thomas added.
“I haven’t gotten what I wanted, and that’s that trophy. But I feel like I’m getting there and I’m doing a lot of the right things. I just have to obviously keep putting myself there, and hopefully one of these years it’ll happen.”
Thomas is next in action at the Genesis Invitational as he looks to build on this performance and get into a winning position.
