LIV Golf star Jon Rahm has opened up on his relationship with Greg Norman since his seismic move to the Saudi-backed tour.
The 29-year-old sent shockwaves through the golfing world in December 2023 when he announced he would be quitting the PGA Tour.
Rahm’s move came after he had previously pledged “fealty” to the PGA Tour and Jay Monahan. The Spaniard, along with Rory McIlroy, was among those fiercely opposing the breakaway golf league.
In an interview with ESPN, the 2023 Masters Champion has admitted the move was largely financially motivated.
He explained: “I’d be lying if it wasn’t a big part of it. In a nutshell, I’m getting paid more to play the same sport and have more time. I don’t know about most people but that sounds good to me.”
John Rahm opens up on relationship with LIV Golf commissioner Greg Norman

Norman’s position as the face of LIV Golf has seen criticism thrown the Australian’s way.
But, as more players turn their backs on the PGA and DP World tours, attention seems to have shifted away from the 69-year-old.
Speaking ahead of this LIV Golf Adelaide, Rahm has opened up on his relationship with the league’s CEO.
“I actually met Greg at Mayakoba in 2014, I believe,” he said.
“We hit it off well and he’s always been extremely nice to me, even in the early stages of LIV Golf but more recently during my transition to the league.
“It’s always very refreshing to have somebody who was such a great player themselves – an active golfer – be a part of the league and be its commissioner because he’s always going to understand the players’ side.”
LIV Golf Adelaide to take centre stage this week
LIV Golf takes centre stage down under, and the Saudi-backed tour has gone all out on marketing the event.
With the PGA Tour perhaps in a slight lull after the Masters, there’s an opportunity for LIV to gain further traction.
Talks with the PGA Tour are believed to be ongoing, and the sooner a resolution is found, the better. The divide among the world’s best has done the professional game no favours.
Monahan can ill-afford another high-profile departure after rumours emerged over McIlroy’s PGA Tour future. A future agreement could put an end to the world’s elite turning their backs and making the move to LIV.
