Three weeks of the TGL have passed, and it’s fair to say the golfing world is still getting used to the tech-infused simulator league.
On night one, The Bay Golf Club vs. New York Golf Club attracted over 1 million viewers. That figure increased for Tiger Woods’ debut in week two.
However, week three–Atlanta Drive GC vs New York GC–saw viewership plummet. Only 682,000 people tuned in to watch Justin Thomas and Co.
Next week’s Jupiter Links vs Boston Common GC clash should see viewing figures climb again with Woods and Rory McIlroy in action. A closely-fought fixture is precisely what the TGL needs.
TGL average viewer age revealed after three weeks of action

Another intriguing statistic that arose from the initial weeks of the TGL is the age of viewers compared to some of the other big sports in the USA. According to Joe Pompliano on X, the average age of a TGL viewer is 51, which is younger than the NFL (54) but marginally older than the NBA (50).
TGL viewers are also younger than those who watch the NHL (52), F1 (53) and the MLB (60).
Given the tech-infused nature of the league, it’s hardly surprising to see a younger demographic tuning in. Pompliano also revealed that the ESPN time slot–which shows the TGL–has seen a 50% increase from this time last year.
TGL in hot water after Billy Horschel’s comments
Plenty of talking points have emerged since the start of the simulator league. The movable green has come under the spotlight, and some believe the accuracy of the simulator may be out.
Elsewhere, Billy Horschel’s comments after Tuesday’s fixture also raised a few eyebrows. The 2024 BMW PGA Championship winner claimed the producers had asked for a close match – and the six players duly obliged after Atlanta ran out 4-0 winners.
Some fans took Horchel’s comments literally, and the 38-year-old was forced to clarify his remarks earlier this week. “Anyone ever heard of sarcasm or a joke,” Horschel wrote on X.
“Sorry if I suck at it. I think we (both teams) clearly showed that we wanted to win every hole possible.”
