Tiger Woods’ TGL season is off to a losing start after Jupiter Links Golf Club were thrashed 12-1 by Los Angeles Golf Club at the SoFi Centre.
Woods, playing alongside Kevin Kisner and Max Homa, saw his three-man team fall into an early 5-0 deficit. Los Angeles Golf Club – made up of Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala and Justin Rose – would eventually cruise into an 8-1 lead before the singles.
It was Woods’ first competitive outing since he missed the cut at the 2024 Open Championship. And, after throwing down ‘The Hammer’ and splitting the fairway on the first, things looked positive.
The 15-time major winner struggled after finding water on the par-five second and duffing a bunker shot on the 13th. The 49-year-old’s putter was also stone cold.
In fact, golf coach Peter Kostis believes Woods wasn’t helped thanks to an issue with the movable green at the SoFi Centre.
Golf fans spot issue with TGL green during Tiger Woods’ match

Taking to X on Tuesday evening, Kostis claimed the innovative putting surface should be replaced after players regularly overhit putts.
“They need to replace the green because tour players don’t run a 20′ putt 8 ‘ past the hole or miss five footers by a whole cup,” he wrote on X.
Some golf fans were also critical of the green at the SoFi Centre. “The putting was so bad,” one fan wrote. “Downhill, it would look like fast-forwarded, then it would slow down way too fast.”
Another added: “Chipping and putting on turf, from my experience, never feels right. Even on the best turf.”
The TGL green wasn’t an issue for Ludvig Aberg
Despite fans’ concerns, Ludvig Aberg didn’t have an issue with the TGL green during last week’s opening match.
Aberg starred on the green and helped The Bay Golf Club to a comprehensive victory over Xander Schauffele’s New York Golf Club. The Swede quickly mastered the unique surface and made putting look very simple.

Unfortunately, for those who are sceptical about the tech-infused green, Woods, Kisner, and Homa’s sub-par performance on night two is probably why fewer putts were made.
Next up, New York Golf Club return on January 22 to face Atlanta Drive Golf Club. Then, on January 27, Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common start their TGL season against Jupiter Links.
