The US Open has finally arrived, with PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars alike taking on the major tournament at Oakmont Country Club.

Scottie Scheffler has been tipped for US Open success, with the American having recently won the PGA Championship.

That arrived after Rory McIlroy won The Masters, while The Open Championship will take place at Royal Portrush later this summer.

But all eyes are now on the US Open at Oakmont, with the 125th edition of the tournament now underway in Pennsylvania.

Scheffler has been paired with Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland for rounds one and two, while McIlroy is playing alongside Shane Lowry and Justin Rose.

Before the action got underway, however, another iconic figure in the golfing world shared his assessment of the US Open.

As per the tournament’s X account, Happy Gilmore character Shooter McGavin named his picks to lift the trophy this week.

“Well I’m glad I’m not playing now against somebody like Scottie Scheffler,” he said. “He’s grinding it out, he’s killing it, he’s the man right now.

Bryson DeChambeau right behind him probably. I like [Ludvig] Aberg, I like his shot. And of course, it would be not Irish of me if I didn’t mention Rory.

“So I think anybody in those top four guys can do it, they can do it and they just got to know this is the hardest course in America, maybe on the whole tour. It’s crazy. The rough? Sick. So I wish them all the best and I’m glad I’m not in it.”

Happy Gilmore 2 excitement on pause during US Open at Oakmont

Happy Gilmore has gone down as arguably the greatest golf film ever, and so there is understandably plenty of excitement for its sequel.

The release date for Happy Gilmore 2 is set for July 25, and it will feature a long list of iconic figures alongside main actor Adam Sandler.

Scheffler, McIlroy and US Open defending champion Bryson DeChambeau will all feature, as well as other high-profile players such as Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler.

Schauffele and Fowler loved filming Happy Gilmore 2, and are certain to enjoy taking in the action when the film is released.

Golf fans are also set to enjoy seeing their idols in another light, but that will not be the case at this week’s US Open.

A real challenge awaits the field taking on Oakmont, with frustration and disbelief set to overshadow any excitement on the course in Pennsylvania.
