Happy Gilmore actor Adam Sandler’s real golf handicap revealed as sequel nears release date

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore is arguably the greatest golf movie of all time and its sequel is coming out on July 25.

The teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 was released this week so fans are starting to get very excited.

What makes this film even more interesting is the appearances of real-life golf stars, such as Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.

But the main character will still be Sandler, of course, so here’s a look at how good he is when he’s not doing the famous Happy Gilmore swing.

What is Happy Gilmore actor Adam Sandler’s golf handicap?

Happy Gilmore might be one of the world’s best golfers in the film but, unfortunately, Sandler is not capable of mixing it with the professionals in real life.

The 58-year-old’s handicap two years ago was 16, according to Essentially Sports. Between 10 and 19 is widely regarded as a mid-handicap, while 20-plus is high and below 10 is low.

This means that Sandler’s ability is probably around average in comparison with recreational golfers around the world.

One thing that probably holds the American back is that whenever he’s spotted on the golf course, people ask him to do his best Happy Gilmore impression.

“I have to – I get called out literally,” he said. “If I go to a new place, it’s a guarantee on the opening tee… I mean it’s just, people come forward and they’re like looking and I’m like I gotta do this. I do the Gilmore swing and move on.”

What Justin Thomas said about filming Happy Gilmore 2

One of many PGA Tour stars set to feature in the new film is Justin Thomas, who made an appearance in the recent trailer.

The two-time PGA Championship winner recently spoke about what it was like to take part in the filming of the movie.

Seemingly relieved that he didn’t have to do much acting, he said: “I mean, I would say if you put us in any situation outside of golfers it would be extremely uncomfortable, but at least we’re able to somewhat be ourselves.”

Thomas added: “I definitely realized pretty quickly how often I quote Adam Sandler movies in my everyday life.

“Because when you’re around the person you naturally don’t want to do that to not make yourself kind of look stupid.”
