The US Team and International Team are currently preparing for another clash at the 2024 Presidents Cup.

There are three players Mike Weir could rely on to perform for the International Team at the Presidents Cup, having recently had his 12-man team confirmed.

The US Team has also confirmed its side for the tournament, which is set to take place at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal later this month.

Stewart Cink is happy with Jim Furyk’s selections, with the latter having picked the top six points-earners for his six captain’s picks.

Plenty is at stake for the US Team and International Team players, including the prestigious trophy, along with a great deal of pride.

Ernie Els says what it means to represent the International team at the Presidents Cup

It is the US Team that boast the best record at the Presidents Cup, with the International Team winning the event on just one occasion.

Their former player Ernie Els, who is an assistant captain in Montreal, has now warned his players just what it means to represent the International Team.

“America has 500 million people, but the rest of the world has six billion,” said Els, as per the Presidents Cup on X.

“So you’re representing a huge mass of very skilled people. But as a team, what was our identity? What was our mission?

“Only the people on the team know what the logo stands for. The players that enter that group and put that logo on his chest, he understands what his role is to play a Presidents Cup for the International Team.”

What is Ernie Els’s record at the Presidents Cup?

Els will undoubtedly be a very useful figure for the International Team in Canada, alongside fellow assistant captains Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy and Camilo Villegas.

They should provide plenty of experience and insight for team captain Weir, who will be eager to end the US Team dominance.

Els has plenty of Presidents Cup history, having narrowly lost the competition as team captain to Tiger Woods’s US Team in 2019.

The South African guided his side to a big margin on day one, but a fantastic comeback was completed by the US Team in the Sunday singles.

Els, who previously served as an assistant captain to Nick Price in 2017, boasts a superb record as a Presidents Cup player.

Appearing in eight tournaments, the legendary figure is third in Presidents Cup matches won with 20, behind only Woods (27) and Phil Mickelson (26), and level with Furyk.

Taking the advice of Els – who created the International Team shield – would be a very wise decision from the current group of players.
