Eight-time Tour winner confirms he will undergo hip surgery next week and will miss the PGA Championship

The 2025 PGA Tour season continues this week with both the Truist Championship and the Myrtle Beach Classic.

Scottie Scheffler proved Phil Mickelson wrong at the latest event on the PGA Tour, having won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Scheffler is not in the field for the Truist Championship, but Rory McIlroy is out to defend his title from 2024.

Philadelphia Cricket Club plays host to the tournament, while the Myrtle Beach Classic takes place at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Both events come right before the PGA Championship, which gets underway at Quail Hollow later this month.

Billy Horschel to miss the PGA Championship as hip surgery confirmed

But one player that will be out of action for the foreseeable future is Billy Horschel, who has just shared an injury update on social media.

“Health update,” he wrote on X, accompanied by a video message. “After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided to have right hip surgery early next week out in Colorado.

“It’s an unfortunate situation with so many great events left on the calendar but this is a preventative measure.

“I’m already itching to start rehab, get back to practicing and I look forward to returning to the course sometime around late summer/early fall.

“I would like to thank my family, friends, sponsors and partners for their continued support of me. I will share positive news on my rehab as I progress and I look forward to seeing everyone at the course again soon!”

What PGA Tour titles has Billy Horschel won?

Horschel is an eight-time PGA Tour champion, with the 38-year-old having made 358 starts in his career so far.

But the American has missed five cuts from his 12 events played in 2025, including at The Masters last month.

Injury has, however, clearly prevented Horschel from playing his golf, although he was still able to shine in the inaugural TGL season.

He also has two top 10 finishes to his name this season, but will now be sidelined for the near future due to his impending hip surgery.
