Unfortunately for golf fans, Scottie Scheffler won’t be at the Truist Championship this week.

With the Truist Championship being a Signature Event, Scheffler deciding to skip the tournament at the Philadelphia Cricket Club came as somewhat of a surprise.

After making a late commitment to play in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in his home state of Texas, Scheffler chose to miss out on the Truist Championship.

With the PGA Championship just around the corner, the 28-year-old’s game is clearly in tip-top condition right now after he dominated the field at TPC Craig Ranch last week.

Scheffler is one of the two best players in the world right now, alongside Rory McIlroy, and he will be expected to contend on the final day at Quail Hollow at the very least.

After his 14th PGA Tour victory on Sunday, Scheffler now sits in seventh spot on the all-time PGA Tour win percentage list.

It would have been great to see him add to his tally this week up in Philadelphia, but it wasn’t to be.

Scottie Scheffler shares why he’s skipping Truist Championship

There is some huge money and points available at the Truist Championship this week.

Scheffler won’t be picking up any of either of those things though.

And he explained why he decided to stay at home for a week instead, when speaking on the Dan on Golf podcast with Dan Rapaport.

He said, Well, I mean, it’s nice for me to be at home for a week, and this will give me three weeks in a row heading into a major, and it’s nice to have that. In terms of major championship prep. I think last year I learned a little bit about my prep work. Going from the Memorial to the US Open was definitely a challenge, playing a really difficult golf course before. Having not played Philly Cricket before, maybe that factored into my decision a little bit.

Skipping the Truist Championship is probably a wise decision from Scheffler, especially after what was such an emotionally charged win in his home city on Sunday.

He clearly learned from playing the Memorial last year and winning, before going onto the US Open and finishing in a hugely disappointing tie for 41st.

How Phil Mickelson responded to Scheffler’s win at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Back in March, Phil Mickleson made the woeful prediction that Scheffler would not win again before the Ryder Cup.

And after being proven wrong just six weeks later, Mickleson was forced to eat humble pie on X.

He said, So I might of been off on that one. Congrats to Scottie on a great performance.

At least he took it on the chin!

Scheffler will undoubtedly go on to win multiple more times this season, but he won’t be playing this week.

Instead he will be resting up at home before the PGA Championship starts on May 15th.
