Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy are two of the top contenders to win the PGA Championship this week.

Not only are they both world-class golfers, but the golf course at Quail Hollow is expected to suit them as well.

While this is yet to be proven for DeChambeau, McIlroy already has an amazing record at the venue.

The LIV Golf superstar recently explained why he thinks the Northern Irishman plays so well at Quail Hollow.

Bryson DeChambeau comments on Rory McIlroy’s record at Quail Hollow

DeChambeau thinks that McIlroy’s driving has been key to his past success at Quail Hollow, and that makes perfect sense.

The course is 7,623 yards long, so distance off the tee is crucial, and McIlroy is probably the best driver in golfing history.

“I do believe you have to have a lot of distance out here,” DeChambeau said. “Rory is a great driver of the golf ball, and his iron play is great, too.

“I think it’s a golf course that sets up for his shot shapes pretty well, and I think it sets up well for mine, too. We’ll see.

DeChambeau also said that he hopes to be in contention with McIlroy on Sunday, just like he was in the final round at The Masters.

“Maybe I do well, maybe I don’t,” he added. “But I’m certainly going to give it my all, and I know Rory is. Hopefully, we can have another go at it again like The Masters.”

How many times has Rory McIlroy won at Quail Hollow?

McIlroy has won the Truist Championship, previously known as the Quail Hollow Championship and Wells Fargo Championship, more than any other event.

2024 marked the fourth time that he’s lifted the trophy, all of which were at this year’s PGA Championship venue.

Plus, McIlroy’s 10-under-par round of 61 at the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship remains the course record at Quail Hollow.

While major championships are different, his domination at the club in still-important PGA Tour events bodes well for his chances this week.
