All amateur golfers should aspire to be more like Scottie Scheffler at this moment in time, with the American currently on top of the world.

Scheffler has been told he’s altered golfing history, with his latest achievement involving winning a fourth major championship at The Open.

Only the US Open title remains among the four major championships, while Scheffler is rapidly moving up the PGA Tour all-time wins list.

He’s now on 17 after emerging victorious at The Open at Royal Portrush, where another golfing masterclass was on full display.

Scheffler loved the Royal Portrush fans, who in turn were delighted to see his immense talent despite largely favouring Rory McIlroy.

Why Scottie Scheffler thinks amateurs find golf so hard

But nobody was beating the American, who once shared his thoughts on amateur golfers when discussing his own routine.

He said: “Most amateur golfers that struggle with their swing, it’s not because they lack coordination, it’s because their bodies physically can’t move the way that you’re supposed to. I have the same stretching routine whether or not I’m playing golf or not.”

And when asked if that happens early, right when he gets up, Scheffler replied: “Depending on the day, but if I’m at home after a week on the road, definitely not first thing in the morning.

“Those mornings are a little bit slower. But I have a routine, it probably takes 20-ish minutes to do every morning, and then we spend a lot of time in the gym, probably working out four or five days a week and just kind of trying to stay in shape for a golfer.”

While it will be impossible for amateur golfers to emulate Scheffler and his unique swing, they can still learn a lot from him.

That is true of both his ability and his attitude, with the American boasting a fantastic mental strength that has helped push him over the line so many times.

Scheffler is matching Tiger Woods at his best, with their constant comparisons unsurprising given his current level on the PGA Tour.

His latest efforts at Royal Portrush included an eagle and 20 birdies, ranking him T6 and T3 respectively among the field, while he carded just three bogeys, fewer than anyone else.
