Tyrrell Hatton certainly made the headlines as the DP World Tour season drew to a close at Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course in Dubai.
The Englishman eventually finished solo sixth on ten under, five shots back of the eventual winner, Rory McIlroy.
Hatton’s top-ten finish is not what his DP World Tour Championship will be remembered for, however.
| 1. | MCILROY, Rory | -15 | €2,842,443.00 |
| 2. | HØJGAARD, Rasmus | -13 | €1,203,300.87 |
| T3. | LOWRY, Shane | -11 | €525,220.30 |
| T3. | ROZNER, Antoine | -11 | €525,220.30 |
| T3. | SCOTT, Adam | -11 | €525,220.30 |
| 6. | HATTON, Tyrrell | -10 | €299,404.00 |
Hatton was involved in several distasteful moments, particularly during Saturday’s third round, where his emotions clearly got the better of him.
Dame Laura Davies slammed Hatton after Sky Sports coverage picked up some expletive language from the LIV Golf star. Commentator Ewen Murray also claimed Hatton was a ‘terrible’ influence on the younger generation.
Hopefully, the DP World Tour Championship will be a watershed moment for Hatton, with many suggesting the incidents at the Earth Course were a step too far.
Hatton’s short fuse is well-documented, and here, The Golfing Gazette examines five of the Englishman’s most explosive moments.
2024 Masters Tournament
During the 2024 Masters, Hatton got into an altercation with officials after blasting a group of players for slow play.
The Englishman’s group, which included Keegan Bradley and Matthieu Pavon, had to return to finish their first round on Friday morning after being held up by Patrick Reed, Sungjae Im and Kurt Kitayama.
“The lads in front have been so slow,” said Hatton. “It’s pretty poor from the officials that it took 32 holes to put them on the clock. Yesterday, they lost a hole and a half; they weren’t any better even this morning, and then for the second round, they were just brutal.”

Augusta National 2022
During the 2022 Masters, Hatton hit the headlines after making an extraordinary claim about the course set-up.
“You can hit good shots here and not get any reward for it. It’s unfair at times,” Hatton said. “I don’t agree with that. If you hit a good shot, you should end up near the hole — not short-sided into a bunker because of the slopes that they’ve created and stuff.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s a fair test at times, and when you hit good shots, and you’re not rewarded for it, it shows.”
2024 DP World Tour Championship
During the opening round of the 2024 DP World Tour Championship, Hatton’s complaints about the par-five 18th were heard on Sky Sports coverage.
‘I despise everything about this hole. Having to hit 9-iron, after hitting a good tee-shot, shows how bad this is. It’s just so ridiculous,” Hatton said.
“Everything about this, I just despise. A truly awful golf hole.”
2024 Open Championship
Another recent moment of rage occurred during the 2024 Open Championship. Hatton carried his clubs instead of his caddie after hitting an awful shot on the 12th hole at Royal Troon.
Whether it’s about the course or his swing, Hatton is never afraid of letting his often negative thoughts known!
Augusta National’s 15th hole
Another hole Hatton despises is the 15th at Augusta National. During the 2024 event, the Englishman admitted he tries not to think about it until he gets there.
“I was trying not to think of 15 until I got there. That hole lives rent-free in my head. I hate it. I absolutely hate it,” Hatton said.
“I think it hates me with the scores that I end up producing on it. Again, I’ve played that hole in 4-over this week.”
