Sky Sports pundit Dame Laura Davies has been left stunned by the behaviour of a LIV Golf player during the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Tyrrell Hatton and Joaquin Niemann are the highest-profile breakaway league stars at the Earth Course this weekend as the DP World Tour season draws to a close.

And it comes as no surprise to see Englishman Hatton hit the headlines. Hatton slammed the par-five 18th on Friday and also highlighted two issues with the course after his first round.

Fast-forward to Saturday’s third round, and it’s safe to say the Englishman’s mood hasn’t improved. Hatton missed a tiny par putt on the 4th, which pushed his temperament to the edge.

However, after missing a five-foot birdie putt on the 10th, Hatton’s explicit language was picked up on Sky Sports’ coverage, and Davies was far from impressed.

“Apologies for the unbelievable language of Tyrrell there,” Andrew Coltart said. “He knows the rule; he knows he can tap down spike marks if it is indeed spike marks.”

Davies replied: “I am flabbergasted. He’s making himself look a bit daft now, to be honest.”

Does Tyrell Hatton need to change?

Hatton, at times, does overstep the mark.

Golf clearly requires patience, something Hatton sometimes lacks. And if the Englishman wants to be considered among the elite players and compete in majors, remaining calm in the most pressurised moments is non-negotiable.

Coltart, however, believes Hatton players better when he’s on edge. “I don’t think he would. I think he uses that to keep his concentration and focus on his desire, to keep that fire burning,” Coltart said after Friday’s second round.

“He just reminded me with that interview of the saying that you can’t tell how good a golfer is by his good rounds; you can tell how good a golfer is by his bad rounds. If Tyyrell Hatton is one shot off the lead, not playing well and playing badly, then the world of golf needs to look out.”
