The PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and LIV Golf seasons were as thrilling as ever, with plenty of twists and turns across all three.

Scottie Scheffler was the PGA Tour Player of the Year, winning a stunning seven titles to take his career titles to 13.

And it was his fellow American and fellow world number one Nelly Korda who won the LPGA Tour Player of the Year award.

Korda was delighted with her 2024 season, which like Scheffler included one major title, and like the PGA Tour star took her career major tally to two.

Jon Rahm meanwhile emerged victorious in the LIV Golf Individual Championship, with Ripper GC taking home the team title.

Aside from all the titles, however, golf fans were treated to a long list of phenomenal shots on the course, with The Golfing Gazette doing its best to pick out the top five of 2024…

5 Tiger Woods – The Open Championship, 1st round, 3rd hole

It simply wouldn’t be a best golf shots list without Tiger Woods. The 15-time major champion wasn’t anywhere near his best in 2024 due to injury, but he still managed to play in all four majors.

Woods didn’t make the cut in tricky conditions at The Open Championship, but unsurprisingly managed to catch the eye in Troon by draining a fantastic lengthy birdie putt on the par-four third in his opening round, much to the delight of those watching on.

4 Nelly Korda – CME Group Tour Championship, 2nd round, 3rd hole

Korda undoubtedly has one of the best swings in world golf, with her technique helping her record a fantastic year on the LPGA Tour.

And while the world number one may not have emerged victorious at the CME Group Tour Championship, she more than left her mark, particularly with her second shot on the third hole in round two.

Having sent her tee shot into the rough, Korda recovered in superb fashion as her eight-iron approach dropped into the hole for an eagle, with a nonchalant walk-off adding to the entertainment.

3 Tyrrell Hatton – LIV Golf Chicago, 2nd round, 6th hole

As far as perfect golf shots go, Tyrrell Hatton definitely deserves a shout-out for his hole-in-one during the second round of LIV Golf Chicago.

The Englishman certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he gave the fans what they wanted with an inch-perfect tee shot on the 164-yard island green sixth hole, with Hatton even suggesting he broke a record despite it being the eighth hole-in-one in LIV Golf history.

“I think that’s the first one that they actually got on camera, so that’s cool,” said Hatton, as quoted by the LIV Golf website.

“I’ll enjoy watching that one back. Yeah, just a gripped down 9-under around 160 yards and landed just short and trickled in and left side.”

2 Lydia Ko – Women’s Open, 4th round, 17th hole

St Andrews is difficult at the best of times, but this was particularly true when the stars of the LPGA Tour took on the wind and rain at the Old Course during the final round of the Women’s Open.

And among a four-way tie for top spot walking down the 17th was Lydia Ko, who had 200 yards to a green that neighboured the infamous Road Hole bunker.

Laying up wasn’t on the cards as she sought to end her eight-year wait for a third major title, even though the par-four hole was playing as the most difficult across the week.

But Ko fired a fearless and ultimately superb 3-wood to leave herself within 20 feet, with the New Zealander going on to clinch par and shortly after the trophy.

1 Bryson DeChambeau – US Open, 4th round, 18th hole

Great golf shots can be measured by what is at stake, and not much epitomises a more high-stakes moment than a major-clinching shot, which like Ko was the case for Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open.

Involved in a tense battle with Rory McIlroy at Pinehurst, the American swapped big hitting for finesse with his phenomenal 18th bunker shot from 55 yards to the hole to four feet.

McIlroy certainly helped his rival out with a final-round collapse, but DeChambeau still needed to step up, and he more than did that with a stunning hit from the sand that was crucial to his second major championship win.

Remarkably, DeChambeau hit a hole-in-one over his house this year too, but that effort sadly has to be overlooked given his entertaining social media stunt was away from official competition…
