Jason Day is among the star names taking on the Grant Thornton Invitational this week, where he will partner Lydia Ko.

The Australian and New Zealander respectively won the Grant Thornton Invitational last year, with Florida’s Tiburon Golf Club once again playing host this time around.

Tony Finau has withdrawn from the Grant Thornton Invitational, with Daniel Berger replacing him as the partner of Nelly Korda.

Day is a 13-time PGA Tour champion, while Ko boasts 22 LPGA Tour victories, three of which came in 2024.

A total of $4million in prize money is on offer at the Grant Thornton Invitational, where 16 mixed teams will be vying for glory.

Jason Day impressed by two LPGA Tour players ahead of Grant Thornton Invitational

Day and Ko sit 34th and third in the official world golf ranking and women’s world golf rankings respectively ahead of the event.

Previewing this week’s tournament, Day said on Today: “There are so many teams you have to worry about.

“Outside of what Lydia has accomplished this year, you have Nelly Korda who has played tremendous golf.

“Speaking solely on the LPGA you have Lilia Vu, who is playing some great golf as well. But the teams match up.

“A team like Nick Dunlap and Gabby Ruffles is a young group and I think they are going to gel well together.

“But you never know in team environments like this how quickly you can have that chemistry and work together and play well together.

“But Nick Dunlap and Gabby Ruffles seem like they are playing some really, really good golf right now, so fingers crossed we can defend this title well this week.”

What are the Grant Thornton Invitational pairings?

Day and Ko finished on 26-under to take the title this time last year, beating Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson by one shot.

The latter pairing is back for revenge this year, joined by the likes of Sahith Theegala and Allisen Corpuz and Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson.

But also looking to emerge victorious are star duos such as Tom Kim and Jeeno Thitikul and Matt Kuchar and Megan Khang.

Other pairings include Cameron Champ/Mel Reid, J.T. Poston/Maja Stark, Akshay Bhatia/Jennifer Kupcho and Matthieu Pavon/Celine Boutier.

Vu meanwhile is paired with Luke List as Cameron Young/Lauren Coughlin, Max Greyserman/Andrea Lee and Jake Knapp/Patty Tavatanakit complete the line-up.

Korda will still be the one to watch despite the withdrawal of Finau, who has fuelled rumours of a defection to LIV with his decision.

The six-time PGA Tour winner says he is out of the tournament as he recovers from a knee injury, but whether or not that is the whole truth remains to be seen.
