Tiger Woods will not be Team USA’s Ryder Cup captain in 2027.

The PGA of America confirmed as much in a statement about Woods following his recent car crash. This statement was published after he and Augusta National confirmed he would not be playing at The Masters this year.

Woods was arrested for driving under the influence after a car crash in Florida, according to officials. His breathalyzer test registered a 0.00, according to the police. However, deputies determined Woods was impaired and said he did not submit to a urine test.

Woods was linked with the US captaincy ahead of Adare Manor next year, but after this incident, he has been officially ruled out. Now the PGA of America must look elsewhere, and their solution to this issue is in plain sight.

Team USA must appoint Brandt Snedeker as Ryder Cup captain

Brandt Snedeker is the clear choice for the PGA of America. He has all of the experience in the world to take on this role, and it will give the Americans the continuity and familiarity they desperately need to build chemistry ahead of Adare Manor.

Team USA was beaten handily by a cohesive European side at Bethpage Black. Luke Donald’s side outclassed them with a state-of-the-art operation, which got every key decision exactly right.

The Europeans hang their hat on continuity.  The idea that one generation’s imprint on the team threads through to the next is embedded in Europe’s DNA. And with Donald returning as captain for the third straight event, nothing will change on that front.

What do you think about Luke Donald’s appointment?

Is this good or bad news for Europe?

There is only one way the Americans can begin to replicate that. Snedeker was a Vice Captain at Adare Manor, so he’s already familiar with the players and the operation. And he’s the Presidents Cup captain for Team USA this year, so that familiarity and experience are only set to grow.

No matter what, Team USA is set to have an enormous experience disadvantage with their captaincy at Adare Manor, so they should try hard to bridge that gap. Snedeker is therefore the perfect option.

Team USA can lean on a big advantage that they have over Team Europe

While Europe is clearly the early favorite to win in 2027 on home turf, the Americans have one advantage over their opponents. They get a practice run.

Europe comes together for every Ryder Cup for the first time in two years, but that isn’t the case with Team USA. They get the Presidents Cup in between as a test run, and they need to lean on that edge.

Snedeker can use that event to discover which pairings work well together, how to get the best out of each one, and to build a rapport with his biggest stars. He can use the summer to gain some really valuable experience.

Predict who the Ryder Cup captains will be in 2027 🤔

If the PGA of America decides not to appoint Snedeker, then it’s a real opportunity wasted. He would likely be appointed as Vice Captain, but the leadership traits he’d have developed at the Presidents Cup won’t be best utilized in that role.

So if Team USA wants any chance of beating Europe in Ireland, they must appoint Snedeker and use the Presidents Cup as a test run.
