Scottie Scheffler has responded to the news that Luke Donald will captain Europe for a third time at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.

Team Europe have stepped up their preparations for next year’s Ryder Cup by confirming that Luke Donald will continue in his role as captain.

What do you think about Luke Donald’s appointment?

Is this good or bad news for Europe?

It always looked likely that the Englishman would stay on following his victories at Marco Simone and Bethpage Black. However, there was also a chance that he would hand the job over to Francesco Molinari.

But Europe will indeed be led by Donald once again in Ireland in 2027. And Scottie Scheffler has now issued his verdict on the decision.

Scheffler has a pretty dreadful record over the last two Ryder Cups, so he may have been hoping that Europe would take a different approach.

However, he suggested that it looks to be a smart move from the Europeans to stick with the former world number one.

“No, I hadn’t seen anything on that. But he’s had some pretty good results the last two cups, and obviously I think we’ll be hoping to change that when we go over to Ireland next year,” he said.

“Obviously he’s had a lot of success and he’s pretty good at it, so if I was the European team I would probably try to be trying to convince him to come back as well.”

What Scottie Scheffler said about the job Keegan Bradley did at Bethpage

All eyes are now on the PGA of America as they look to name who will take on Donald in 2027.

As things stand, it appears to be Tiger Woods‘ role should he want it. The PGA of America have told Woods they would like him to make a decision before The Masters. It is not a firm deadline, but they may be wary of waiting too long for the 15-time major champion’s decision for a second time in a row.

The PGA Tour's best players will be in action at Bay Hill…

The likes of Stewart Cink, Webb Simpson, and Brandt Snedeker could be options if Woods says no. Meanwhile, there is a chance that Keegan Bradley could get an opportunity at redemption.

Scheffler described the job Bradley did in New York as ‘amazing’, according to Golf.com. However, the 2011 PGA Championship winner will surely be desperate to make the team as a player after a turbulent few years.

Nothing would galvanise the American team quite like Woods stepping up. But there remains a large question mark over whether he will finally take it on.
