Xander Schauffele is set to partner Tony Finau in the opening match of the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Schauffele was the number two ranked qualifier for Jim Furyk’s 12-man USA Team. Finau, making his third Presidents Cup appearance, was picked by the American captain.
Finau loves playing with Schauffele, and the duo will be looking to score the first American point when Thursday’s fourball matches begin.
Xander Schauffele shares what he noticed about Tony Finau’s yardage book

Schauffele, speaking to the press on Wednesday, was quizzed on the rough at Royal Montreal. Interestingly, the world number two revealed that Finau has clearly marked in his yardage book where the rough is extremely thick.
“Yeah, Tony said he’s going to put a big X in his yardage book. It’s thick,” Schauffele said. “There are certain spots; you can just tell no one chipped out of it. There’s some spots on the property where it’s just like any old-school golf course.
“It’s been around so long; there’s just different kinds of grass. It’s not super uniform. You can get a decent lie; you can get a terrible lie. Just need to make sure I’m on the correct side of the hole.”
Xander Schauffele will be tough to stop at the 2024 Presidents Cup
Schauffele is also competing in his third Presidents Cup and could be hard to stop in Montreal this weekend.
The American’s 6-3-0 record is mightily impressive, and given his performance in 2024, Schauffele could well take his tally near the ten-point mark.
As for Schauffele’s pairing with Finau, it was interesting to see Furyk break up the potent Schauffele-Patrick Cantlay combination.
Schauffele and Cantlay are the winning formula for the USA, and the partnership could well be reintroduced if things don’t initially go to plan for Furyk.
