PGA Tour star Tony Finau has spoken about his relationship with world number two Xander Schauffele and what it’s like playing alongside the reigning Open champion.

It’s been another impressive season for Finau. The 35-year-old made nearly $6 million in 2024, and Finau also came close at the US Open.

The American, however, couldn’t keep pace with Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler, who were levels above the rest during the 2024 campaign.

Scheffler’s form has left Finau ‘speechless’, and the Salt Lake City native has now discussed what it’s like to play alongside Schauffele.

Speaking whilst filming a YouTube video with Grant Horvat, Finau revealed that he’s been very close to Schauffele for a long time.

“Xander, we’ve been good friends for a while,” Finau told Horvat. “So I love teeing it up with Xander.

“Anytime you get to play with the top guys and guys who are in good form, you kind of feed off that energy.”

Finau is now preparing for the Presidents Cup, which starts on Thursday at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Tony Finau’s 2024 major championship record

Finau is now at a stage in his career where a major is required.

The 35-year-old has contended at the Masters before and also performed well in two of 2024’s four majors.

If Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau hadn’t performed the way they did at Pinehurt, Finau was in an excellent position to land what would’ve been a memorable US Open title.

As the 2025 season rolls around, Finau will no doubt be looking to target the majors and ensure he gives himself at least two good chances to win.

Despite winning six times on the PGA Tour, Finau will know he must land one of golf’s four biggest tournaments to finally be considered among the game’s elite band of players.
