Wyndham Clark enjoyed a winning start on his TGL debut as he helped The Bay Golf Club thrash New York Golf Club in Florida.

Golf fans have been pleasantly surprised by TGL, which commenced its inaugural season at the SoFi Center on Tuesday.

The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy venture is now underway a year later than scheduled, with Rickie Fowler excited about TGL’s potential.

Fowler was on the losing New York side on TGL opening night alongside Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick, as their teammate Cameron Young was left out.

Clark meanwhile enjoyed a superb 9-2 victory with The Bay alongside Ludvig Aberg and Shane Lowry, with Min Woo Lee missing out.

“You could change the golf holes to where they’re tailor-made for The Bay Golf Club so that it’s holes just for us, and that’s our home course advantage. There are so many different things you could do. You could obviously make it bigger.

“I think as this continues to grow, and I really think it will, we get better at playing the game and obviously the trash-talking, I think as there starts to become rivalries between teams and more banter, I think people are going to enjoy it.”

What Wyndham Clark hopes will happen with TGL after opening night

Launched by TMRW Sports, the joint venture of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, the TGL has gotten off to a positive start.

Fans were understandably sceptical about the virtual and real-life combinations at play, with many players perhaps in a similar position.

But the purpose-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach more than delivered, with the event taking place a year later than expected after the venue’s dome collapsed due a power shortage.

Clark was among those left impressed by the entire situation, with the American noting: “The SoFi Center is unbelievable.

“The technology is amazing. We’re having a lot of fun. I just hope it translates to viewership and I think it will.

“It’s the most fun we’ve ever had playing golf, and I just think people love seeing us have fun and smile, and maybe it gets big.”
