With TGL’s inaugural season looming, and Scottie Scheffler not being involved, it is going to be so intriguing to see which players thrive in such a unique environment.

TGL appears to have the potential to really capture the imagination. There is a really impressive lineup amongst the six teams of four PGA Tour players. Tiger Woods is set to be involved, while Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa will also feature.

It will be interesting to see how each player copes with the challenge. Full shots are set to be hit into a giant screen, while there are also areas to hit from various lies. And when players reach the green, there is a short game facility for the players to move to.

And perhaps playing on and around the green is going to take a little more getting used to than many fans realise.

Wyndham Clark suggests one part of TGL he expects players to really struggle with

Speaking on the Fore Play Podcast Plus, Wyndham Clark suggested that while the facilities are absolutely superb, he is concerned about adjusting to putting on the green inside the SoFi Center.

“The one thing is our putting stats, it’s the one thing, the green, the technology is so good and as everyone knows, turf putting can be different,” he said.

“And they’ve made it where there’s a lot of slope and undulation. It’s hard to read. So I feel like that might be the one area maybe our stats might not be as good.”

How The Bay Golf Club players fared on the greens on the PGA Tour in 2024

It definitely appears that the flat stick could be the issue for Clark’s team, The Bay Golf Club. As well as the 2023 US Open champion, the team includes Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg and Min Woo Lee.

Based on the 2024 season, Clark is, by some way, the best putter of the quartet. Both Lowry and Lee were outside the top 100 for strokes gained on the greens.

It is going to be fascinating to see how the regular season stats measure up against those which come from TGL. Presumably, some will completely surpass expectations while others may find the environment a lot more challenging than they anticipated.

The Bay will be one team who need their players to surprise many with how well they perform on the green.
