2022 US Open runner-up Will Zalatoris has claimed he’s finally found a “go-to” part of his game after messing about on the range on Monday.
The American currently sits in a five-way tie for fourth after day one of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club.
Zalatoris made eight birdies and two bogeys to card a 66 and sit two shots back of leader Akshay Bhatia.
With birdies and low-scoring likely on a unique PGA Tour set-up, the 27-year-old will fancy his chances of competing over the weekend.
Monday range session proves vital to Will Zalatoris

Speaking during his post-round press conference on Thursday, Zalatoris claimed he’s now rediscovered the low fade, which used to be his stock shot.
“I lost the ability to hit a low fade, which is my go-to, for about two months there,” he explained. “And finally, we picked up on what we needed to do, messing around on the range on Monday. It’s nice it’s finally clicking.”
He added: “This year has been a giant work in progress. There has been some positives and some lows. The big thing is staying patient, but I’m not a very patient person.”

Zalatoris started the PGA Tour season in red-hot form, finishing second at the Genesis Invitational and fourth at the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill.
Furthermore, the one-time PGA Tour winner also managed to place in the top 10 at this year’s Masters.
But, a missed cut at the US Open and a disappointing finish at last week’s Travelers have seen his season stall somewhat.
Zalatoris, like many players this week, will be hoping to contend and cement his current FedEx Cup ranking ahead of the end-of-season playoffs.
