Scottie Scheffler is a major champion once again, having just lifted the trophy at the PGA Championship.

Ryan Lavner thinks Scheffler wasn’t playing his best at the PGA Championship, where he clinched a five-shot win.

The world number one now has two PGA Tour wins this season and 15 overall in his phenomenal career so far.

Scheffler finished top of the pile after four rounds on 11-under, having mastered the tricky conditions at Quail Hollow.

Bryson DeChambeau was proud of Scheffler after his triumph, with the LIV Golf player finishing T2 in North Carolina.

What PGA Championship winner Scottie Scheffler is just as good at as Tiger Woods

And somewhat unsurprisingly, a comparison with 15-time major champion Tiger Woods has now emerged.

Asked if he thinks Scheffler can reach Woods’s major level, Smylie Kaufman said on Pardon My Take: “Health is going to be a big key to that, if he remains healthy and he continues the form that he is on.

“The strokes gained is something that we can kind of compare with generations a bit, when we go back and look at how well did Tiger Woods strike the golf ball and compare it to how well Scottie Scheffler has done it.

“It is comparable data. When you look at that you say he’s as good as controlling his golf ball as Tiger Woods.

“Then you look at how he has done since 2021 and look at all the top events he has played in. He constantly puts himself in contention week in and week out, especially for the majors.

“When you look at that and what he’s accomplished to that point and how crucial it was to win this week, if he hadn’t gotten the job done this week you would be thinking he’s only got two majors and only won The Masters and think what is he is going to be measured against over the course of his career and can he pass Tiger and Jack Nicklaus.

“He definitely needed to get it done today and he did. All of a sudden you start to think okay is he going to be the next player to complete the grand slam?”

Even being mentioned in the same sentence as Woods and Nicklaus is an impressive feat, with the pair having gone down in golfing folklore for their feats on the course.

Scheffler still has a very, very long way to go to join the duo at the top table, but he is certainly going the right way about it at this moment in time.

The world number one now has three major championship wins to his name, and people would be very foolish to rule him out of another next month.
