Tyrrell Hatton has arrived at Royal Troon ahead of the 152nd Open Championship – and the LIV Golf star will be hoping to continue what has been an excellent 2024 thus far.

The Englishman won his maiden LIV Golf title in Nashville, just a week after the US Open at Pinehurst No.2.

Hatton finished T26 in the year’s most challenging major and also placed in the top ten during this year’s Masters at Augusta National.

The 32-year-old also finished third in last week’s event in Andalucia. Hatton has admitted he’s still getting the hang of LIV’s format, but the results tell a very different story.

Hatton is never one to get too carried away, irrespective of his performance level.

And in footage shared by the R&A, the Englishman was quick to downplay his finish in Andalucia when speaking to Billy Horschel in Troon’s locker room.

Horschel asked the Englishman: “You played good last week, didn’t you?”

Hatton offered a blunt response: “Yeah.”

Horschel replied: “Why are you smiling? Did something happen?”

Hatton added: “No, it’s just surprising!” Horschel: “Oh, surprising? You always play good!”

Tyrrell Hatton could contend at The Open this week

Jon Rahm said he was surprised by Hatton’s lack of success in recent years, but it only feels like a matter of time until the LIV Golf star lands one of golf’s most prestigious prizes.

He regularly contends in the biggest events, giving himself excellent chances heading into the latter stages of tournaments.

For Hatton, looking to be more consistent in the final rounds must be the next step.

For example, during the US Open, he faltered badly after putting himself in an excellent position ahead of the final 18 holes.

Hopefully, his Nashville triumph and Andalucia finish will be a springboard for Hatton to finally land his first major title. And given his current form, he’s a solid pick for this week’s Open.
