Bryson DeChambeau will indeed make his return to the Ryder Cup stage in September, with the LIV Golf star automatically qualifying for Keegan Bradley’s team in Bethpage.
In truth, it seemed inevitable that Bryson DeChambeau would be involved at the Ryder Cup from the moment that he holed the putt to win his second US Open crown at Pinehurst last year.
DeChambeau has found a way to compete on all of the biggest stages. He finished tied for second at the PGA Championship this year, while he was in the final group on Sunday at The Masters. He also received all kinds of plaudits after fighting back from a nightmare start to The Open Championship.
Keegan Bradley confirmed at Royal Portrush that DeChambeau would be involved at Bethpage. But his place in the side is now official following the end of the qualification period after the BMW Championship.
What Bryson DeChambeau has been like behind the scenes ahead of the Ryder Cup
DeChambeau has done an amazing job to qualify given that he plies his trade on LIV Golf. But the fact that he is no longer a member of the PGA Tour has posed a problem.
Bradley wants his players to tee it up at the Procore Championship next month as USA look to avoid making the same mistakes as 2023 when Zach Johnson‘s men seemed incredibly underprepared.
DeChambeau hit out at the PGA Tour for not allowing him to play in Napa. DeChambeau has been criticised for his comments, with the 31-year-old being the one to put himself in that position.
But it appears that Bradley’s team are not concerned about the situation. Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast about DeChambeau’s comments, Brandt Snedeker insisted that the world number 18 has already brought so much to the ranks.

“I think Bryson’s been great about wanting to be more open with the guys on the team. He feels just like anybody would feel, like ‘I’m separated from these guys, I only see them for four weeks a year, I want to make sure these guys know I’m willing to do anything and everything to be on this team and be a part of this team’. I give him a ton of credit because not a lot of guys would’ve offered the stuff or done the stuff he’s been willing to do to try and bring this team together,” he said.
“That’s a non-story. It’s not even in the realm of possibility so I’m not going to waste any time worrying about it or talking about it, but I give Bryson a ton of credit for his willingness to come to dinners or play golf with guys at home, or be willing to text us and tell us how he’s feeling and what he’s thinking.
“He’s been great with us as captains and vice-captains about telling us how much this means to him, being part of this team and being on this Ryder Cup team and being one of the guys and wanting to let people know that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to be a part of this team. And that’s all you can ask for. We look forward to getting him in the fold. He brings a dynamic to our team. I certainly wouldn’t want to play him, I’ll put it that way.”
The story of Bryson DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup career so far
DeChambeau has a mixed record in the Ryder Cup. He made his debut in 2018 in what proved to be a very miserable experience for the Crushers captain.
DeChambeau lost all three matches he played at Le Golf National. He was not helped by Jim Furyk putting him out in the foursomes alongside Phil Mickelson on Friday. It is hard to imagine that even this version of Scottie Scheffler would have been able to help Mickelson avoid defeat that afternoon.
And on Saturday afternoon, DeChambeau played alongside Tiger Woods. Woods was clearly drained from winning the Tour Championship the week before.
The trio were on the losing side in every match they played across the week.
| Year | Bryson DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup record | Points won |
| 2018 | 0-3-0 | 0 |
| 2021 | 2-0-1 | 2.5 |
But 2021 proved to be much more successful for DeChambeau. He played alongside rookie Scottie Scheffler at Whistling Straits, with the pair going unbeaten in their two matches together.
DeChambeau was on his way to becoming one of the most popular players in the game at that stage. And he managed to take down Sergio Garcia in the Sunday singles. Garcia had been one of the only positives across the European side in Wisconsin.
It will be interesting to see if Bradley revives the partnership between Scheffler and DeChambeau at Bethpage.
The US could simply not put together a more exciting pairing.
