Anthony Kim returning to golf has been one of the biggest stories of the year when it comes to any tour in the sport.

Kim has made his return to golf by signing with the PIF-backed LIV Golf and he’s teed off in Jeddah on Friday to get his return to the game underway.

In the end, Kim’s round ended in disappointment as he finished some six over par, a whopping 14 shots off the leaders Jon Rahm and Adrien Meronk.

However, his score was never going to be too relevant. Instead, the intrigues is there in terms of how Kim’s return came about and LIV supremo Greg Norman has been sharing how it all unfolded.

Greg Norman shares how Anthony Kim ended up back involved with golf

Speaking in an interview with the LIV media team, Norman revealed the process of getting Kim to sign actually started many years back.

“It really started a few years ago to be honest with you. We reached out to AK early on and it wasn’t the right time for him. I wanted him to know we had interest in reigniting him and bringing his passion and belief in the game back out. To get to the point where we are at it was probably very emotional and passionate for me to pull him back into the game because very few people know what it’s like to be at the upper level. He was an incredible player. I watched him and saw his talent then to see him fall into this dark hole and to see where he is today and walk with him and be with him this last month or six weeks in this process, he didn’t want an agent, he wanted to do it all himself. He’s been reinvigorated through his family and it’s brought something back to him,” Norman said.

Anthony Kim return is nice to see

Forget the money side of things – Kim is set to earn around £5m just for playing – this is just a nice to see story of a player returning to the sport he loves.

The score today was always going to be of interest but it doesn’t matter too much and in reality, he’s only two shots shy of the likes of Bubba Watson, which after 12 years away, is nothing to be ashamed of.

Hopefully, Kim can start to find his feet and swing a bit more and over time, produce some results.

Most people in golf would like to see it and if he can start to turn the screw a bit, then LIV will have more eyes on its product in the end.
