Tiger Woods returns to the course at this weekend’s PNC Championship; however, the 15-time major winner isn’t overly enthusiastic about the state of his game.
Woods’ latest back surgery took place in September, and the American has admitted he’s fortunate to be taking part at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.
After an extended period away from the course, Woods admitted his game is uncompetitive. The five-time Masters winner delivered an honest appraisal of his current performance midway through Wednesday’s pro-am.
Tiger Woods delivers ‘rusty’ verdict on his game at PNC Championship

Speaking during a mid-round interview on the Golf Channel, Woods claimed his game was “rusty” despite producing what seemed like free-flowing swings.
“Rusty,” Woods told the Golf Channel. “Very rusty. I don’t have my feels, and my trajectory is off, and I shot shapes. But, hey, this is a practice round to get ready for tomorrow. I am not looking forward to being cold tomorrow. Hopefully, Charlie drives it, so we can just pick up and move on.”
“I am not at a competitive level; this is a scramble. I am not competitively sharp.”
What can golf fans learn about Tiger Woods at the PNC Championship?
Golf fans shouldn’t read too much into this week’s event in Orlando when it comes to Woods’ performance.
Yes, it’s good to see the 48-year-old out on the course again, but the event at Ritz-Carlton is a far cry from what will present itself once he eventually returns to the professional scene.
Woods himself admitted that he isn’t treating this week’s event as part of his recovery. “This is a scramble. I don’t have to play each and every shot. I am not competitively sharp. It’s more of a bonding experience. To be able to have friends and family and have fun with Charlie, that’s what this week’s all about.”
Next up for Tiger after the PNC Championship is the inaugural TGL season, which begins on January 7 in Palm Beach, Florida.
