The upcoming TGL is the latest attempt to capture a new audience in golf and one of Tiger Woods’ former coaches has become the latest to offer up his verdict on the format.

The TGL – fronted by the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods – will see teams of PGA Tour players compete in an enclosed virtual venue which sees elements of a normal golf course, such as bunkers, also involved.

After the rise and relative success of LIV Golf, the TGL is an attempt by those on the other side to bring more eyes to golf as a whole and increase revenues further.

And over on social media, Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney, has given his take on proceedings.

Hank Haney claims the TGL could be ‘great for golf’ if it comes off

The popular Haney worked with Woods in some of his prime years and is never shy of an opinion or two when it comes to the professional game of golf.

However, while Haney can sometimes shoot certain notions down, he’s actually quite upbeat about the prospect of TGL improving golf as a whole.

What other PGA Tour players have said about the TGL ahead of launch night

Like anything new in golf, the TGL has been a big talking point among the pros and players taking part, with Haney not the only person to throw his opinion in.

Billy Horschel has spoken on the entertainment side of golf being exposed more which in a way, is what LIV have tried to tap into.

Of course, Haney’s comments came amid a clip of Rickie Fowler getting dialled into the big screen and while Fowler believes ‘it’s not real golf‘, he’s still excited to get involved.

A lot will depend on the opening few weeks really as to how it captures the public’s attention. If the TGL falls flat initially, then it could be one of those ideas that just never gets going.
