One of the next significant dates in the golfing calendar is the start of the innovative TGL season at the SoFi Centre in Florida.

Two years in the making, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy‘s joint venture is finally set to begin, and several players have visited Palm Beach to test the state-of-the-art equipment.

Woods was spotted hitting drives into the simulator last week, and golf fans were impressed with the 15-time major champion’s swing. Furthermore, Billy Horschel was blown away after seeing the indoor arena for the first time.

McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Justin Rose, and Rickie Fowler have also visited Palm Beach to inspect the new facilities.

Fowler, speaking during the latest edition of the Smylie Show, is the first player to properly discuss what it’s like using simulators and playing short game shots indoors.

“I have been on site twice, but I am going to try and go a couple more times,” Fowler said.

“It’s not real golf, but it’s not hitting balls in your bedroom simulator; it’s somewhere kind of in-between. They are all new holes; they are not holes you have seen before; they were designed just for this.

“There is some adjusting to do to hitting on the monitors and how the ball reacts there, and also how it is chipping off the synthetic and playing on the synthetic green.”

When is Rickie Fowler playing in the TGL?

Fowler is part of New York Golf Club and will feature in the first-ever TGL match on January 7.

Matt Fitzpatrick, Schauffele and Cameron Young will join Fowler during the opening night’s action against The Bay Golf Club.

Tiger Woods’ first TGL match will be against Los Angeles Golf Club a week later, and Atlanta Drive GC will start their campaign a week later against New York. Rory McIlroy won’t be in action until the end of January when Boston Common will face Jupiter Links.

With the TGL unlike anything golf has ever seen, there will undoubtedly be interest when the world’s best players walk out at the SoFi centre for the first time in February.
