European Ryder Cup star Bob MacIntyre had a remarkable debut year on the PGA Tour, clinching two memorable victories.

The Scot’s season took off at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, where MacIntyre won the Canadian Open with his father on his bag.

MacIntyre’s second victory at the Scottish Open will be one he cherishes right up until he calls time on his career. Needing a birdie to avoid a play-off with one-time Masters winner Adam Scott, MacIntyre sunk his putt on the last to send the Renaissance Club patrons into a frenzy.

The 28-year-old’s performances in 2024 haven’t gone unnoticed. Tommy Fleetwood is amazed by what MacIntyre achieved this year, and now, world number one Scottie Scheffler has had his say.

Speaking at this week’s Hero World Challenge in Albany, Scheffler said it was cool to watch the Scot win his national open.

“Yeah, watching him win the Scottish Open was pretty cool. That was pretty fun for all of us to watch,” Scheffler said.

“Getting to watch him win his home championship was really cool. You saw the emotion, and Bob’s such a tremendous guy that it’s fun to see him have that success. You know, I just always appreciate seeing guys succeed that put in the work and Bob’s a guy that I see out here practicing and doing the right things.”

The world number one added: “I think he took care of some stuff last year personally by going home, taking a break and making sure he’s good mentally to come back out and play. Stuff like that, I think, is really important. I think Bob’s done a really good job of managing his life at home and managing his success out here as well, he’s done a really good job.”

What can Bob MacIntyre improve next season on the PGA Tour?

After a strong debut season, 2025 could be the year where MacIntyre establishes himself among the game’s elite players.

But, to be uttered in the same breath as Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy requires consistency in the major championships.

MacIntyre finished T8 at the PGA Championship before missing the cut at the US Open. He was also well out of contention at the Open Championship. Looking to sharpen up in the year’s most significant events is a must.

Statistically, MacIntyre appears pretty well-rounded, although there are areas for the Scot to work on. During the 2024 season, the 28-year-old lost strokes on approaches to the greens and ranked 125th for greens in regulation.

Furthermore, he was well down regarding driving accuracy. By straightening up his tee shots and hitting more greens, MacIntyre will give himself a great chance of consistently competing at the highest level.
