Tommy Fleetwood has praised one of his European Ryder Cup teammates, who has enjoyed a breakout season on the PGA Tour.

Fleetwood was tipped to win the DP World Tour Championship this weekend but has failed to mount a serious challenge at Jumeirah Golf Estates thus far.

The Englishman is tied for 15th at four under and well out of contention. Fleetwood’s impressive form appears to have deserted him this week, although the 33-year-old will be pleased with how he’s played during the autumn stretch of the DP World Tour season.

As the 2024 season draws to a close, Fleetwood has taken time to discuss Bob MacIntyre’s memorable debut year on the PGA Tour, and the seven-time DP World Tour winner delivered a glowing assessment of the Scot.

Speaking before this week’s DP World Tour Championship, Fleetwood admitted he was amazed at what MacIntyre had achieved in 2024.

“Bob has had a fantastic year,” Fleetwood said.

“Winning on the PGA Tour, I think that him winning his home event there must have been such a special feeling, and I think that run he had in the summer, how amazing to golf when it goes like that. He played so well, and he managed to accomplish such amazing things.

“Again, Bob has gone from strength to strength, and I think it’s been great to see. Another one of those players that obviously keeps you motivated to keep trying to improve and compete with all these guys.”

Bob MacIntyre’s double-winning PGA Tour season

MacIntyre’s Canadian Open victory was the Scot’s first on the PGA Tour. MacIntyre had his dad on the bag at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, and the finish in Ontario sparked emotional scenes.

MacIntyre, however, went one better at the Scottish Open.

The 28-year-old’s dramatic win at the Renaissance Club will go down in history as he edged out Aussie Adam Scott by a solitary shot.

Now, as the build-up to the 2025 season begins, MacIntyre will be looking to cement his place among the world’s elite and compete in the major championships.

The Scot finished in the top ten at the PGA Championship before missing the cut at the US Open and finishing out of contention at The Open Championship.
