Scottie Scheffler remains the last player to partner with Bryson DeChambeau in a Ryder Cup, with the pair playing twice together at Whistling Straits in 2021.

Much has changed since Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau went unbeaten in two fourball sessions in Wisconsin four years ago. Of course, Scheffler was still yet to win on the PGA Tour and appeared to be a slightly contentious pick from Steve Stricker.

DeChambeau, meanwhile, still divided opinion among fans. He has since joined LIV Golf and gone on to become one of the most popular players on the planet. The 32-year-old also won the US Open for a second time in 2024.

That helped set the stage for DeChambeau to force his way into Keegan Bradley‘s team for this year’s Ryder Cup. Bradley confirmed at The Open Championship that DeChambeau would be in his lineup for Bethpage – before he had officially qualified.

Scottie Scheffler suggests why he is excited for Bryson DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup return

There is a question mark over how much DeChambeau will play this week. Many will back the Crushers captain to play five times. However, it appears to not be a straightforward task to find him a partner in foursomes.

DeChambeau lost both alternate shot matches he featured in in 2018. But speaking to the media on Tuesday, Scheffler insisted that he is a brilliant player to have alongside you on the Ryder Cup stage.

“Yeah, I mean, I think Bryson is a tremendous competitor. He’s a great partner as well. I partnered with him in 2021 at Whistling Straits and he was a tremendous guy to be out on the golf course with. He’s a great guy and a good friend and he’s been great in our team room,” he said.

“Like I said, he brings a lot of energy, the people love him, and I think he loves the opportunity to be able to represent his country. He’s a multiple-time U.S. Open winner, and that means a lot to him. Being an American I think means a lot to him as well.

“I’m excited to kind of unleash him this week.”

How Bryson DeChambeau has become one of Team USA’s players at this year’s Ryder Cup

DeChambeau is not the same player that made his debut at Le Golf National in 2018. He was also unlucky to be paired with Phil Mickelson in France. DeChambeau recently admitted Mickelson needed a pep talk after a nightmare performance.

You would imagine that players will be queuing up to play with DeChambeau this time around. Ben Griffin said he would like to be paired with DeChambeau.

Meanwhile, Cameron Young has played a similar golf ball to DeChambeau this year. So that may make them a great option for the opening session on Friday in New York.

DeChambeau has not only become one of the USA’s best players in the four years since his last Ryder Cup appearance, he has also turned into the star Bradley simply has to find a way to play as often as possible.

Scottie Scheffler explains what makes Sam Burns such a good putter

DeChambeau is not the only player Scheffler has partnered in the Ryder Cup. He also played alongside Sam Burns in the first session in Rome.

Burns forced his way into the team this time around with an impressive run of form in the later stages of the season. And of course, his biggest strength is his putting. Burns is number one on the PGA Tour for strokes gained on the greens this year.

And Scheffler outlined what he thinks makes his good friend so lethal on the putting surfaces.

“He’s got really sound technique. His fundamentals are really good. He works on them daily. But Sam, I think, does a great job of being free over a putt as anybody I’ve ever seen. I’ve talked to him about the way he reads greens and he does his AimPoint stuff but it’s almost not even — he doesn’t do AimPoint like everybody else does AimPoint,” he said.

“He kind of gets an idea and he does what he thinks he should, and he does it time and time and time again. His consistency with the putter is pretty amazing because you’ll get guys that have really goof putting years and they’ll be up on top of the list, but Sam year in and year out is right up on top.”
