Sahith Theegala teamed up with Will Zalatoris last week at The Zurich Classic of New Orleans and he’s had some high praise for his teammate.
Zalatoris has been battling injuries in the last few years but is progressing nicely in the main on the PGA Tour in 2024, albeit Zalatoris has withdrawn from the Byron Nelson this weekend, citing a physical precaution as the reason behind his withdrawal.
However, overall, Zalatoris will feel good about being back on tour and rehabbing what has been a troublesome back injury.
Indeed, the 27-year-old has played the last three weeks on tour, including partnering up with the popular Sahith Theegala last weekend in New Orleans.
And while it was Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry who won out in the end, Theegala was impressed with what he saw from his partner Zalatoris.

Sahith Theegala makes bold prediction involving Will Zalatoris
Speaking on The Smylie Show podcast, Theegala made a bold prediction about Zalatoris and where his game could take him.
“He was carrying me so hard. Even for two days. Nah, Will’s the man. Side note I guess but I’m just happy to hear his rehab and how well his back’s going. He sounds so excited to continue this rehabbing process and you know, he’s a beast,” Theegala said.
“You know the scary thing is. I think he’s gotten better. His control off the tee, his control with his irons, the speed with his putter is incredible now, no putting issues at all. He’s got like a new mentality about it and when you get hat guy talking about the Majors, he lights up. If I could wager, I wouldn’t wager against him winning a major in the next few years.”
Zalatoris can win multiple majors if he stays healthy
In golfing terms, 27 is no age and the sky really is the limit for Will Zalatoris if he can put the injury issues behind him fully.
His performances in majors in recent times have been impressive and but for a few shots, he’d already be on the board. He finished second in The Masters in 2021, then finished second in both the PGA and the US Open in 2022.
Of course, since then he’s missed the whole of 2023’s majors but stormed back into contention at Augusta a few weeks back, finishing an impressive ninth.
Zalatoris, then, could well be in the mix for the upcoming PGA Championships. Taking a break this weekend will do him good and among all the players on tour right now, he is one who you’d back heavily to land a major soon.
Of course, Scottie Scheffler stands in his way. But if Zalatoris can get to his very best again, he can challenge his fellow American.
