Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler were involved in match with plenty of needle during the opening day of the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Kim was pumped on the first tee and sparked a reaction from the world number one during the opening exchanges.
Scheffler downplayed the back-and-forth with Kim after the match, which saw him and Russell Henley secure a 3&2 victory.
Golf Channel pundit Ryan Lavner has since shared his thoughts on the feisty encounter and admitted Kim appeared awkward on the back nine.

On the Golf Channel Podcast, Lavner dissected the opening day’s play and shared his thoughts on Kim’s reaction during the second half of the match.
“Tom Kim said afterwards that he doesn’t shy away from Scottie Scheffler. It didn’t appear that way. He was awkward and timid around Scheffler on the greens,” Lavner said.
“When he made a long birdie putt on 10 to match Scottie on 10, he hardly emoted at all. He just gave a little fist pump, and that was it. It certainly seemed like he had been humbled and was afraid of Scottie Scheffler a little bit.”
He continued: “That is exactly what the internationals cannot do. You have to be game and fit for the fight. I thought Tom Kim’s reaction over the second half of that match was indicative of a larger problem with the International Team.”
Tom Kim rested ahead of Friday’s foursomes matches
Kim took aim at the Canadian crowds after the first round, and the South Korean will have to wait until Saturday to bounce back from his first opening defeat.
Kim appeared caught up in the emotion of Thursday’s opening matches and failed to exert any significant pressure on Scheffler and Henley.
Mike Weir’s men can’t afford to lose Friday’s foursome session. The US are typically strong in the alternate shot format, and there’s no doubt Furyk will be looking to hit somewhere near the ten-point mark come close of play.
