Rory McIlroy is the new champion of The Masters, taking over at Augusta National from defending champion Scottie Scheffler.
Gary Player has congratulated McIlroy on his success at Augusta National, where he has won The Masters for the first time in his career.
McIlroy was making his 17th start at the major championship, where he was aiming to win the career Grand Slam at the 11th attempt.
And the 35-year-old did exactly that this week, edging out Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff in Augusta, Georgia.
He has clinched the green jacket with the success, but as is tradition, will now choose the menu for next year’s Champions Dinner.

Rory McIlroy discusses his Champions Dinner at The Masters with Scottie Scheffler
Jack Nicklaus has rated Scheffler’s Champions Dinner menu this time around, with McIlroy having been asked on Sky Sports Golf what he is planning for next year.
“I told Scottie when I saw him in Butler Cabin, I said I am not serving burgers next year!” responded McIlroy.
“I am not sure, I have a year to think about it. But hopefully I will come up with a unique menu and a menu that all the past champions will enjoy.”
What Rory McIlroy ‘can’t wait’ for after finally winning The Masters at Augusta
Scheffler produced another impressive display at The Masters, with the world number one finishing fourth.
He ended his week on eight-under, just three shots behind eventual champion McIlroy, who missed his putt on 18 to take matters into a playoff.
The Northern Irishman has now ended his lengthy wait for a fifth major win, with that spell having gone beyond a decade before Sunday’s success.
Sharing his thoughts on the week, McIlroy said: “It has been a lot. Coming in here pretty much being the centre of attention at The Masters every time you tee it up and not in a good way, in a pretty pressure-packed way.
“I think each and every year I have come here I have learned how to handle that burden a little bit better. I wish I had done it sooner! It took me a while to figure it out but thankfully I have been able to get over the line in the end.”
McIlroy was then reminded that he said he’d retire on the spot if he secured the green jacket, to which he replied: “No! I just said there, you can’t win all four majors in a year if you haven’t won the first one!
“There is a lot of golf left to play this year. Next major is at Quail Hollow, somewhere I have loved for the most part of my career.
“The Open at Portrush. The Ryder Cup at Bethpage. There is a lot of golf left this year and I have gotten off to a great start, obviously. I can’t wait to keep it going.”
