Rory McIlroy has now followed in the footsteps of the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods with his win at The Masters.

Woods sent a message to McIlroy after he won The Masters, which he did via a playoff victory over Justin Rose.

McIlroy and Rose were forced to replay the 18th hole at Augusta National, having both finished their regular tournament on 11-under.

Rose was grateful to experience McIlroy’s winning putt, which helped him secure The Masters for the very first time.

And with that, he has now completed the career Grand Slam, having previously won the PGA Championship, US Open and The Open Championship.

Jack Nicklaus predicts more ‘really good golf’ from Masters winner Rory McIlroy

Another player to have achieved the feat was the legendary Nicklaus, who shared his verdict on The Masters champion with Golf Channel.

“When he had to make a shot he made it,” said Nicklaus. “You look at the shots he made and, I mean, the seven iron he hit at 15 and whatever club he hit at 17, they are remarkable shots.

“Shots you would say I don’t know if I want to try that or not! Then he turns around and plays a shot like he played at 13.

“I am sitting there thinking what are you doing! I know he has the world on his shoulders and he is such a good player.

“It’s just sometimes, the first time around, for some reason I told Barbara that I don’t think he is going to make this putt and he didn’t on 18. That has been his nemesis.

“When he got there the second time around, I said first of all I said Justin’s putt is not going to break left, if he goes up to the right it’s going to stay there.

“I said Rory is going to see that and his putt is a pretty straight putt, which I think it was. He put it left centre and it stayed there.

“I was so happy for him. I am delighted for him. It will take the world off his shoulders. We are now going to see a lot more really good golf out of Rory McIlroy.”

Rory McIlroy endures roller-coaster final round to win The Masters

In true McIlroy fashion, he did things the hard way at Augusta, with his final round typified by a double bogey on the very first hole.

Paired with Bryson DeChambeau, he made a few other glaring errors, namely finding the water at the 13th for another double bogey.

At the same time, however, he hit a handful of simply world-class shots that were worthy of a major championship win.

That included a miraculous effort on the par-five 15th and the par-four 17th, both of which were key to his eventual success.

Unsurprisingly, he let out huge emotion when his playoff win was secured, having only just missed a putt on the 18th for the green jacket.

He now adds The Masters title to his list of major championships, which include the 2011 US Open, 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, and the 2014 Open Championship.
