Rory McIlroy is finally a champion at The Masters, with the Northern Irishman completing the career Grand Slam at Augusta National.

McIlroy was predicted to win The Masters as he led the way heading into the final round, when he sat on 12-under.

The Augusta patrons were cheering louder for McIlroy than DeChambeau in that final round, with the duo having been paired together.

DeChambeau struggled with a three-over 75 to fall back and finish T5 at The Masters, with McIlroy finishing his round on one-over.

That slip-up, coupled with Justin Rose’s stunning 66, forced a sudden-death playoff between the two Europeans.

Speaking after the playoff, Rose said: “I just said, listen, this is a historic moment in golf, isn’t it, someone who achieves the career Grand Slam.

“I just said it was pretty cool to be able to share that moment with him. Obviously I wanted to be the bad guy today, but still, it’s a momentous occasion for the game of golf.”

But in the end the 35-year-old managed to get over the line, finally ending his major drought and indeed completing the career Grand Slam in the process.
