Golf Channel pundit Rex Hoggard has revealed the inside track on what will happen once the PGA Tour’s latest round of talks with the Public Investment Fund concludes.

PGA Tour officials engaged in talks in New York City earlier this week to try to end the long-standing divide with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf.

Currently, LIV players are unable to compete on the PGA Tour due to their playing status on Greg Norman’s breakaway venture.

However, with the likes of Rory McIlroy calling for an agreement, change could finally be afoot.

Speaking during the latest Golf Channel Podcast, Hoggard revealed what one source had told him about the ongoing talks.

“It’s certainly a step in the right direction, and according to one source I talked to, the idea was to get together Monday and do a quote on the whiteboard,” Hoggard explained. “The idea is that let’s sit down and see what the world of golf could possibly look like if there is some deal.

“Let’s see if the game’s not fractured what kind of schedule we could come up with, getting the top players together more often and doing the things both sides seem to have the motivation to want to do. Both sides seem to want to take the game to the next level, whatever that is.”

The outspoken pundit, however, then delivered a concerning admission about what could happen next, with another false dawn potentially on the horizon.

“I’ve seen this too many times,” Hoggard added. “I’ve been told by multiple sources. What happens is that they have two or three days of good talks, and everybody makes progress. Then everybody shakes hands and goes home. The next thing you know, the lawyers have gotten involved, and it’s two steps back. The lawyers are probably going to have the final say.”

Latest PGA Tour and LIV Golf talks must reach conclusion

Considering the number of conversations that have taken place previously, surely a resolution is near?

Of course, legal teams will be eager to iron out any problematic paperwork, but both sides must accept that the current divide cannot continue.

Leeway is required from the PIF and PGA Tour, regardless of the impact either side faces. The longer the current situation dwindles on, the longer the game of golf suffers. Ultimately, fans drive the product, and many are now reaching a point of no return.

Hopefully, the lawyers will refrain from intervening as the latest talks conclude, and the golfing world will have a far better idea of what the professional game will be like in the 2025 season.
