Masters week is finally here, with players already trying to get to grips with Augusta National and all that it entails.

Tiger Woods thinks controlling trajectory is paramount at Augusta, with the legend boasting five wins at The Masters.

He will, however, be absent from the tournament this year, with Woods having recently undergone surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Woods produced a stunning comeback at the 2019 Masters, which represents his most recent win at Augusta and indeed his most recent major championship win.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is the most recent winner of The Masters, having won his second title there in 2024.

Michael Kim calls Augusta greens ‘pretty crazy’ after Masters practice round

Having just played a practice round at the iconic course, the 2018 John Deere Classic turned to X to share his verdict on Augusta.

– Warmed up for a little bit. That range is so pure, barely anyone there because it was later in the afternoon. Went to play the front nine, played with Johnny Vegas.

– Greens were FIRM. Like Sunday firm. They weren’t that fast. I think they’re getting them ready for the rain. Hit some nice shots hit some so-so shots. These greens are pretty crazy.

– Putting from just off is really tricky. It’s so slow with the grass mowed into you but the greens are fast so that contrast makes it difficult. That mow makes bumping into them also super tough.

– Augusta is super hilly, my goodness.

What is the current weather at Augusta National ahead of The Masters?

Kim was seemingly fortunate to get a practice round in at Augusta, with the venue currently experiencing severe weather.

As per a statement from The Masters, expected inclement weather meant that patron gates were not opened as scheduled for Monday’s practice round.

Such weather will only increase the difficulty levels at Augusta, which should make for better viewing for fans.

It will, however, really test the field involved, even those with the experience that the likes of Scheffler and Rory McIlroy boast.
