The Masters is just around the corner, with a long list of star-studded names set to take on Augusta National.

Scottie Scheffler is out to defend his Masters title, with the world number one chasing a third success at Augusta.

Scheffler was “embarrassed” before winning the Masters in 2022, where he beat Rory McIlroy by three shots.

Ludvig Aberg then lost to Scheffler by four shots in 2024, with Jon Rahm – now of LIV Golf – lifting the iconic trophy in 2023.

Masters organisers will be adding the final touches to Augusta this week, with the action getting underway next week shortly after the conclusion of the Valero Texas Open.

Masters record for most left-handed players set to be broken at Augusta

And among the many intriguing storylines playing out is a Masters record, with Justin Ray confirming the statistic on X.

Asked if having eight left-handed players in this year’s field will be a record, Ray replied: “Record is 6 in 2008 and 2018. So yes, would be a record.”

Which left-handed players have won the Masters?

Many iconic left-handed players have been and gone over the years, and many remain on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

And undoubtedly the most iconic is Phil Mickelson, who will once again take on the tournament next week.

Mickelson is a three-time Masters champion, with the American lefty emerging victorious in 2004, 2006 and 2010.

Another American lefty in Bubba Watson meanwhile is a two-time winner, and is also in the field next week.

But it was Canadian Mike Weir who paved the way for left-handed success, with his only major win coming at The Masters in 2003.

Such wins suggest that Augusta may just be more suited to left-handed golfers, with the Masters boasting more such winners than any other major.

The Masters meanwhile has had six such successes, with all six remarkably arriving between 2003 and 2014.
