Patrick Reed is never afraid to ruffle a few feathers, and his latest comments on the state of golf’s traditional tours have left fans fuming.

Since his blockbuster move to LIV Golf, the former Masters champion has never been afraid to target the PGA Tour. Reed recently claimed that LIV’s team aspect is unique and unlike anything seen in the game’s traditional competitions.

Despite his apparent disdain for Jay Monahan and golf’s values, Reed was spotted competing on the DP World Tour in a bid to boost his now lowly world ranking.

Reed is now back with LIV getting set for the Greenbrier event. Speaking during his pre-tournament press conference, the 34-year-old claimed that Greg Norman’s venture had brought the entertainment factor back to golf.

“Golf is slow, boring, long & we’ve now brought in the fast & more entertaining part of life,” Reed remarked.

Golf fans have since reacted to Reed’s comments, and it’s fair to say the American’s interview hasn’t gone down well.

“Amazing, especially when you consider no one watches LIV,” one fan wrote. “I assume LIV has another event this week.” While another said: “It’s so entertaining that virtually no one is watching. It’s too much fun.”

This fan wrote: “No one cares what Patrick Reed has to say.”

“The best feature of LIV is not having to watch Patrick Reed unless I want to turn the channel to the CW,” said this fan.

The digs directed in Reed’s direction kept on coming.

“LIV did get Patrick Reed off my TV; there is that,” a fan sarcastically wrote. “It is amazing how irrelevant Reed become in such a short time,” said another.

Finally, this X user left a scathing review of the LIV Golf star. “It’s so painful to listen to these clowns try and justify the LIV concept,” they wrote. “If they would just admit that they went there for the money and played golf, no one would have an issue with it. Yet they continue to spew hot garbage that’s unbearable to listen to.”

Patrick Reed has done himself no favours

Reed’s comments appear to suggest that the PGA Tour is boring compared to what is offered on LIV, but that isn’t the case.

The best players are still present on golf’s traditional circuit, and the 2024 season has produced some memorable moments.

Instead of lauding LIV’s supposed ‘entertainment’ value, Reed should instead realise that golf’s most engaging moments occur when the world’s best players all compete against each other.

Looking to get the likes of Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann competing regularly against the PGA Tour elite would undoubtedly provide the game with a new lease of life.
