It was a day to remember for Patrick Reed after he made an iconic hole-in-one on the watering hole at LIV Golf Adelaide.
The 12th hole at The Grange is arguably the loudest par-three on the schedule, and Reed’s ace sparked wild scenes on Friday afternoon. With his first shot of the day, Reed played a pinpoint eight-iron into the 12th, which bounced twice before disappearing into the cup.
Overall, it was a solid start for Reed and the 4Aces. Dustin Johnson is four under, Harold Varner III is two under and new signing Thomas Pieters is one under. The quartet currently sit fourth in the team standings.
Patrick Reed notices change at LIV Golf Adelaide

Brooks Koepka alluded to the firm conditions in Adelaide before the event, and Reed, speaking during LIV’s post-round show, believes the course is completely different from what he saw during his practice rounds.
“It was different,” Reed said. “Not only a different wind, but it firmed up so quickly from yesterday. Yesterday afternoon during the pro-am, you could still check some things, especially some chips. Now, it’s completely different. I nipped some shots today and hit some shots where I wanted to and the ball was just not stopping.”
Reed added: “I think that’s the thing when this place plays soft around the greens. You are going to see guys get reckless and attack, and even if they are short-sided, they are fine. But today, it was completely different with how firm it got quickly.
“You couldn’t short-side yourself; otherwise, you are going to struggle. It’s one of those golf courses where it’s not very long, so people think you can overpower it, but at the same time, you can put yourself in some really bad shots. 40 or 50 yards is not fun.”
What Patrick Reed said about his hole-in-one
One hole where Reed didn’t have to worry about short-siding himself was the 12th, and the Texan claimed he knew his eight-iron had an excellent chance of finding the back of the cup.
“It was a nice little 85% eight iron, flighted it down a bit, and I hit it so good I started walking after it. Thought it was going to be perfect,” Reed added.
“You always think when you hit a shot like that, that is going to be close, but to watch it disappear and then see the beers flying was insane.”
Reed’s ace on Friday is undoubtedly one of the most iconic moments in the history of the 54-hole league. The American is the second man to achieve the feat at The Grange after Chase Koepka in 2023.
Of course, Bryson DeChambeau’s 58 at Greenbrier is another moment for the LIV Golf history books.
