Jeeno Thitikul broke a 23-year-old LPGA record at the CME Group Tour Championship on Sunday.

Thitikul has been the best player in the 2025 season and proved it by winning the Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club.

She also lifted the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average on the LPGA Tour throughout the year.

Not only that, Thitikul broke Annika Sorenstam’s record that has stood since her 11-win season in 2002.

Nelly Korda reacted to Thitikul’s achievement after the final round at the Tour Championship.

Nelly Korda impressed by Jeeno Thitikul’s LPGA record

LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam set the single-season scoring record in 2002 (68.697), and only Lydia Ko (68.988) has come close in the last two decades.

With her 68 in the final round of the Tour Championship, Thitikul has now beaten Sorenstam’s record with an average score of 68.681.

The 22-year-old, who was not even born in 2002, must now already be considered one of the best female golfers ever.

Nelly Korda would love to have beaten Thitikul this weekend, and many other times this year, but she showed great appreciation for her rival’s accomplishment.

“Yeah, it’s quite amazing,” Korda reflected. “Great talent, great player. It’s fun to see her craft kind of up close as well. But, yeah, it’s kind of crazy, right?

“To finally beat a record so far in… what was it, 2002, you said? For it to take until 2025, it’s crazy. That just tells you that the greats don’t come along too often.”

Jeeno Thitikul responds to breaking Annika Sorenstam’s record

Jeeno Thitikul is delighted with all of her success this season, including her record-breaking scoring average.

The seven-time LPGA winner admitted that the record was never on her mind, but it still means a lot to make history.

“Definitely. I hope Annika was not going to be angry about that,” Thitikul explained. “To be honest, I didn’t think about that at all.

“The Vare Trophy is the one that I think every player wants to win for sure. It means you’re having the lowest round for the entire year, which means you’re definitely going to be on top of the Tour for sure in that year.

“I think that’s really an honor for me to be able to win it for the second time in my career.”
