Jordan Spieth’s desperate run of form and luck has continued at The Travelers Championship, with the American being forced to pull out of the event after round one.
Spieth was looking to plot his way around in Connecticut but looked visibly uncomfortable at times and at the end of his round, confirmed he’d be pulling out with a back injury.
It means a return to the treatment table for Spieth, who has only just overcome a serious wrist injury.
Spieth himself has posted on social media to confirm his injury and it’s a withdrawal that also disappointed a number of golf fans as well.
As with any injury in golf, despite there being sympathy for Spieth, some golf fans have been online questioning why even played in the first place.
However, fellow PGA Tour player Michael Kim has now weighed in on those discussions, offering a different take.

Michael Kim responds to Jordan Spieth pulling out of The Travelers
Jordan Spieth has definitely been unlucky with his last 18-24 months and there’s a reality about to hit home that he might never recapture his best.
However, with some people opting to criticise him, PGA Tour star Michael Kim has moved to defend Spieth over on social media.
Responding to a post from a fan suggesting Spieth ‘wasted a spot’, Kim defended his fellow pro.
With just one major left in the golf calendar this year, Spieth now faces a race against time to be fit for The Open at Portrush.
Having won the tournament in 2017, the American knows full well how to win across the pond but this injury will be a huge setback.
Why Jordan Spieth may start to worry as injuries creep in
It’s worth noting that this is the first ever event that Spieth has withdrawn from. His record of completing tournaments is impressive, so it’s not like he is ‘injury prone’.
However, the worry here is that after the bad wrist injury he had, it’s now another one to add to the catalogue and with back injuries, they can quickly spiral.
Back problems can lead to issues with shoulders, knees, and everything else connected.
We’ve seen over the years how Tiger Woods has been decimated by back and leg problems and while he is an extreme case, Spieth may start to worry.

Right now, things seem minor. But if they persist, it could be a long road to getting back.
