Scottie Scheffler carded an opening round of eight-under par 62 at the Travelers Championship to end the day in a tie for the lead.

Scheffler has been in supreme form recently, with three wins and two top-10s in his last five starts on the PGA Tour.

It looked like Scheffler was in fine fettle during his practice round ahead of the Travelers Championship, and he carried that form on into the opening day.

Scheffler was unusually flustered during the US Open last week, but he seemed more like his old self at TPC River Highlands on Thursday.

The only blot on his copybook was the sloppy bogey he made on the 17th hole.

Considering the perfectionist that he is, that would have really got under his skin.

That said, he will still head into day two in Cromwell, Connecticut, tied for the lead, and there’s not much wrong with that is there?

Scottie Scheffler picks the best shot he hit on day one of the Travelers Championship

Scheffler has an uncanny knack of making everything he does look so easy.

He didn’t even break a sweat at TPC River Highlands after his opening round 62 on Thursday.

And the world number one responded when asked by reporters to share what he thought was the best shot he hit during his opening round at the Travelers Championship.

He said, I mean, 13, that 3-iron I hit in there was really nice. It was pretty much exactly what I was trying to do. It was kind of one where I had to hit it really solid in order to get it there with the water short, and I just did pretty much exactly what I wanted to and it felt nice.

Hit it really solid and really straight, just barely right of the pin, and kept it nice flat flight, get it to go through the wind, and it was good. Well struck.

He was then asked how many shots he hit exactly like he wanted to on Thursday.

Scheffler responded, Just one. Well, exactly how I wanted to? It’s very rare throughout a tournament do you hit one exactly how I intend to, and that was one of the few.

It wouldn’t be a shock to anyone if he racked up another two or three wins this season.

Scheffler was nigh on flawless during his opening round of 62 at the Travelers Championship on Thursday.

And the scary thing for his rivals is that it seemed like he didn’t even get out of second gear all day.
