It’s been an extremely difficult 2025 season for Max Homa, who has missed five consecutive cuts since the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in January.
Expectations were low for the 34-year-old heading into The Masters this week, and so he’s already exceeded them by making the cut.
However, the former world number five is still a long way off his previous best form, with his recent swing changes not yet coming to fruition.
Homa revealed after the second round at The Masters on Friday that he’s dealing with two key issues at the moment.

Anyone who’s played golf knows that there are so many components to a good swing – all of which can go wrong from time to time.
Homa currently has problems with his technique, which means that he often misses to the right.
He explained to the media on Friday afternoon: “I have two main issues right now. They don’t show up much on the range because you don’t react to… 9 is a good example. There are trees down the left. I have to feel like I’m turning and going like… staying in posture and going left. The problem is my brain just hasn’t fully clicked in, but it feels like I’m going to hit it left, so I do the opposite.
“And then the second issue is my club face gets open. I focused the whole back nine on keeping the club face shut so if I did make a mistake, like on 17 wasn’t a great swing, to answer your question feels really behind me, but went in the fairway us because the face can match.
“So 9 is when both things don’t happen. It’s easy on the range for me. It’s very hard out here. Wind, you’re uncertain. Commitment is probably the most important thing for me. It’s getting a lot better. I went through my round. Hit a lot more great shots than not, so I’m just trying to keep getting a little bit better.”

Despite his swing issues, Homa made a significant step in the right direction on Friday with a two-under-par 70.
After his two-over 74 in the opening round, he is now even par and guaranteed a tee time on the weekend.
Homa admitted that he’s “proud” of his efforts so far at Augusta National, albeit he has almost no chance of winning the Green Jacket.
“Yeah, it’s awesome,” added the American. “This has been just not fun at all. Yeah, I don’t know. It’s been decent. Like, I think today and yesterday were similar to how it’s been. Like, make a lot of really good swings in a row and one weird one.
“I was mostly just proud of… yesterday played a brilliant first 12 holes and lost my swing, and I feel like I did a better job of like playing the game and fixing it when I’m done. And today was a bit similar. I got off to a really good start with the swing; I wasn’t holing putts. Stayed patient. Made one loose swing on 9 and didn’t let it freak me out.
“So you’re always trying to learn and evolve. I know I’m only even and whatever, eight back, but it does feel good not to beat myself out here. So that was nice.”
