Collin Morikawa was at his brilliant best alongside Sahith Theegala as the USA dominated on day one of the 2024 Presidents Cup.

Theegala and Morikawa edged out Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee on the 18th to secure the second of five points for the United States.

Woo Lee was tipped to impress before Thursday’s opening matches, but the Aussie was left to rue several missed putts alongside his compatriot.

Morikawa was quick to take to social media after day one to poke fun at the Aussie, who is nicknamed the ‘Chef’.

Morikawa wrote on Instagram, “Chef cooked, We ate 🇺🇸.”

The American’s teammate, Max Homa, replied, “Ice cold.”

Woo Lee and Tom Kim have now been rested ahead of Friday’s foursomes. The South Korean endured a tough opening day after losing 3&2 to Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley, a match that had plenty of needle throughout.

After failing to make a birdie all day, Theegala stiffed his approach to the par-four 18th to earn a well-deserved point for Furyk’s side.

Morikawa had been doing most of the heavy lifting against Woo Lee and Scott after making four birdies by the 14th.

Morikawa and Theegala will now be reunited for Friday’s foursomes as the United States look to extend what is already a formidable lead.

Theegala will need to improve his performance if he’s to deal with the alternate shot format. Morikawa cannot be expected to win the match against Scott and Taylor Pendrith alone.
