International Presidents Cup star Mackenzie Hughes is back in action just days after the Royal Montreal event concluded.

Hughes was part of Mike Weir’s International Team and finished the event with a 1-3-0 record. The highlight of Hughes’ week came during Friday’s foursomes, where he and Corey Conners beat Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau 6&5 as the Internationals staged an inspired comeback.

Canadian Hughes is now straight back in action at the Sanderson Farms Championship, which is the second event of the PGA Tour Fall stretch.

Speaking after his round, the Presidents Cup star admitted he was never going to miss the event at The Country Club of Jackson.

As a former champion, the Canadian shared his love of the tournament during his post-round media duties.

“Yeah, I just love coming here,” Hughes explained. “I love the golf course. The people are great. So, it was an event that I had on the calendar for a long time.

“When the Presidents Cup was thrown in there to put it in question, I knew I wasn’t going to play for the next month after this one, so I was like, well, I’ve been playing; I’m competitively tested, I guess. So I thought, well, while I’m still warm, come here, get a start under my belt, and then take a bit of a break.

Hughes added, “I’m not sure when I’ll play next, but I knew in the next call that in five weeks, I wasn’t going to play. This was one I wanted to come to. Obviously, as a past champion, I love coming here.”

Mackenzie Hughes off to a fast start at the Sanderson Farms Championship

Hughes has started this week’s PGA Tour Fall event impressively.

The 33-year-old currently sits T5 on seven under and five shots back of leader David Skinns, who carded a remarkable 12-under-par 60. Hughes made three birdies on his front nine before adding four more coming in to sign for a 65.

The Sanderson Farms Championship provides an opportunity for players to earn PGA Tour cards for the 2025 season.

Hughes is currently 51st and will need to break into the top 50 if he’s to earn a spot in the eight Signature Events next year.
